How To Dress For The Interview

For any interview you want to put your best foot forward and make a great impression. Even if the work environment is business casual, you should wear a suit to show respect for the interview process and to show the interviewer you are serious about your job search.

Men should wear a dark suit (navy, black, or gray) with a white shirt and conservative tie. You should always wear dark socks and shine your shoes.

Women should wear a conservative suit and blouse. Pants suits are fairly common these days, but if you know the firm is particularly conservative you might want to go with a more traditional skirt suit. You should take this in to consideration as well when deciding to go with or without stockings and with closed or open-toe shoes. It is always best to err on the more conservative side, but you can always double check the culture with your recruiter.

All candidates should limit excessive jewelry (i.e., remove piercings) or cologne/perfume. You never know if the interviewer is allergic or sensitive to certain scents. You should also refrain from chewing gum or candies when on an interview. If you are a smoker, don't have that last cigarette before you walk into the interview. You don't want the smoke smell to linger with you.
