Preparing For The Interview

10 do's that will make the difference:

1) For any interview, remember it is professional dress (how to dress for the interview).

2) Be sure to look up the company website prior to the interview to familiarize yourself with the firm and any recent news about the company.

3) Look over your resume and the job description before the interview and think about how you want to highlight your skills and experience as they relate to the position. You should also print out a few copies of the resume and bring them with you to the interview.

4) Give yourself plenty of time to reach the location but do not arrive too early. Generally 15 minutes before your scheduled interview time is acceptable, but any earlier than that and the interviewer might feel you are not respectful of his or her time.

5) Check the weather forecast the night before. Do you really need that heavy coat? Will you need an umbrella?

6) First impressions are important. Smile, give a firm handshake, and introduce yourself by your full name.

7) Personality is important too. Be friendly, make eye contact, smile! The interview is not only your chance to show the interviewer that you can do the job but also to show him or her a little about you and how you would fit in with the corporate culture.

8) Remain calm, no matter what happens. Interviews can be stressful, and there is always the chance something can go wrong. Reacting well and keeping your composure will show the interviewer you can overcome obstacles gracefully.

9) Don't talk negatively about your past work experiences. Keep the conversation positive. Focus on what you have learned from your past experiences and how it will help you succeed in the position you are interviewing for.

10) Always end the interview on a positive note. Thank the person for his or her time and let him or her know you are interested in the position. Be enthusiastic; you don't want the interviewer to walk away unsure about your interest level.
