Cover Letter Tips
Traditional cover letters are a thing of the past. Recruiters get hundreds of emails a day. The best way to get their attention focused on you is to write a clear email explaining your background and why you are the right person for the position advertised.
Sell yourself: It's time to sell. Summarize your credentials, but don't reiterate your resume. Show how your achievements pertain to the particular job you are applying for. If you do not have specifics on the job, highlight your skills and the type of opportunity you are looking for.
Slow down: Don’t impulsively apply to a job listing you see directly advertised by a client online. Use your resources and the established relationship you have with your recruiter. Once you submit your resume directly through a client's web site, your recruiter is out of the loop and unable to get you in front of the hiring manager. Your recruiter is your best marketing tool; let our relationships work for you
The extra effort pays off: Recruiters are often multitasking, reading through hundreds of emails a day. Conciseness is your goal. When talking about your achievements be confident, but don't exaggerate. Find the typos — they are bound to be there. Read the email out loud and be sure to spell-check.
